Fast Facts -2009-2010

Fast Fact - Academic Achievement:
Stoughton Area School District was highlighted in the September 2009 edition of The Wisconsin Taxpayer by the Wisconsin Taxpayers Alliance as one of fifteen districts in Wisconsin that had ncreased WKCE test scores in at least 10 percentage points in both reading and math from 2005-06 through 2008-09. Stoughton was also listed as the largest district in Wisconsin with an increase greater than ten percentage points in reading during that same period of time.

Fast Fact  - Advance Achievement:
Over the past six years, Stoughton High School has increased Advanced Placement course offerings and tripled student participation and passing rates of the advanced placement exams. For the past two years, ACT results are above the state average with a composite score of 22.6 compared to the state average of 22.3. ACT recognized Stoughton High School as one of 382 High schools across the country for student academic performance demonstrated in Science in 2007.

Fast Fact  – School Completion:
Stoughton School District’s Graduation rate and dropout rate has improved dramatically over the past four to five years. The 2004-05 Stoughton graduation rate was 85% and can be compared to 96.7% today. The dropout rate was 4.32% in 2004-05 (52 students) and can be compared to less than 1% (6 students) in 2008-09. Expanded High School Options for students have been developed promoting greater student success and supported through a multi-year Alternative Education grant and the District’s Strategic Plan.

Fast Fact  – Technology:
Stoughton Area School District recognizes the 21st Century Classroom is a global classroom and access to technology is essential for today’s students. The 2009-10 school year brought wireless capability to our classrooms, mobile computer labs for students in grades 6-12, and many Smart boards and LCD projectors in our schools.

Fast Fact  – Energy Savings:
All of Stoughton Schools have received the National Energy Star rating. This has resulted in
approximately $790,000 projected energy savings.

Fast Fact  – Continuous Improvement:
Most of the accomplishments outlined in these Fast Facts are a direct result of the implementation of the District’s Strategic Plan. The results are part of a sustained focus on achievement over time and are not chance occurrences. The District is committed to working collaboratively in an environment of inclusiveness with staff and the community.
